Discover the Quran's comprehensive guidance on family relationships, honoring parents, raising children, and maintaining strong family bonds according to Islamic teachings.
Family holds the highest importance in Islam after one's relationship with Allah. The Quran emphasizes that Paradise lies at the feet of mothers, and kind treatment of parents is mentioned immediately after the worship of Allah in many verses.
Islamic family structure is based on mutual respect, love, and responsibility. Parents are honored as the means through which Allah grants life, while children are considered trusts (amanah) that must be raised with proper Islamic guidance and care.
"And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment."
Al-Isra 17:23
"And We have enjoined upon man concerning his parents - his mother carried him, weakness upon weakness."
Luqman 31:14
"Mothers may breastfeed their children two complete years for whoever wishes to complete the nursing period."
Al-Baqarah 2:233
"And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up when I was small.""
Al-Isra 17:24
"Wealth and children are the adornment of worldly life."
Al-Kahf 18:46
"And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants."
At-Tur 52:21
The Quran places respect for parents second only to worship of Allah. Children are commanded to be kind, humble, and patient with their parents, especially in old age.
Parents have the responsibility to raise their children with Islamic values, provide for their needs, and guide them toward righteousness and good character.
Islam encourages maintaining family ties, visiting relatives, and resolving conflicts with patience and wisdom to preserve family harmony.
Family members should support each other through life's challenges, share resources according to ability, and pray for each other's wellbeing.
